Randal Wayne Garner was born in a small west Tennessee town of McKenzie on January 4 , l958, His Father Wayne Garner had married the then Eloise Bogle three years earlier. Eventually the family was complete with the addition of a younger brother Mark in l966.
Even as a preschooler Randy loved drawing and would spend countless hours engaged in creating his renditions of virtually everything. Upon entering school and learning to read he developed a love for reading he still has today. At that time he read everything he could get his hands on from dictionaries to encyclopedias to biographies. He soon became enamored with science, especially biology and anatomy. He realized at an early age he was destined to enter the medical field someday.
In Jr. High School he soon discovered two other things he was passionate about football and girls, not necessarily in that order.
During his high school years continued to enjoy his pursuit of art, science, football and young ladies. He was a linebacker and running back due to his strength and speed; he even received inquiries from Vandy and other school. However a broken left leg and torn ligaments in his right leg effectively ended his pursuit of a college football career. He graduated with honors from McKenzie School in l976 although his pursuit of his other passions took precedence over academics most of the time.
In the fall of 1976 Randy entered Union University in Jackson, Tn.as a freshmen. Two things of noteworthy importance occurred that year. First he learned to his dismay that to do well in college required study skills and studying. Second he began dating Mary Ann Bush, whom he had grown up with in McKenzie attending church and school together; she would become his wife three years later. His last three years of college were spent at Bethel College where he graduated magna cum laude.
During these three years he discovered his calling to the dental field choosing dentistry over medical school or a ph, D. to pursue brain research. Randy was accepted to dental school during his senior year at Bethel. He graduate from Bethel in May of l980, married Mary Ann three weeks later, moved to Memphis six weeks later and began dental school three weeks later. That summer was a little hectic to say the least!
The dental school years were even more hectic for the Garner. Randy attended dental school, had an early morning paper route and was the”pool boy” at the three pools in the apartment complex where they lived. Mary Ann managed this large complex during the day and attended college full time at night at Christian Brothers College. She graduated in l983 with honors with a degree in management. Randy graduated from dental school in l984 with honors and then attended a residency at the VA Hospital in Memphis.
In 1985 the Garner’s were led to Franklin to continue their lives. At that time Franklin was small, quaint southern town with “two” red lights, surrounded by beautiful farms. Randy began his dental career and Mary Ann began a career in real estate sales and management. They became active members of Baptist Church during this time and began their family. In rapid succession, in l988, 1991 and 1992 they were blessed with three sons, Stephen Wesley, Caleb Andrew and Jonathan David.
In a few years Mary Ann retired to stay at home with her sons and pursue volunteer and charity work. Randy’s practice continued to grow and he dreamed of one day designing and building a totally new type of dental practice that would actually make dentistry pleasant and enjoyable.
In February 2002 Randy decided to actively pursue his dream and began the process of designing Dental Bliss. It was a long and tedious process from then to April 1 2004 when the doors of Dental Bliss opened to the public. The twenty year vision of Dental Bliss had finally come to fruition.
Today Randy is loving dentistry more than ever, seeing Dental Bliss transform lives everyday. He, Mary Ann and the boys are members of Christ Community Church where Randy has served as an elder for several years. Mary Ann continues her charity and volunteer work. Wes loves sports, Caleb is working hard at learning guitar and Jonathan would spend every waking moment in front of a computer or video game screen if allowed. Randy is still a voracious reader, loves outdoor nature photography, hiking and working out.. Being a perfectionist He continues to tweak and improve the Dental Bliss concept with the dream of taking it nation wide someday.
