The story of Dental Bliss began about forty years ago in a small town in West Tennessee. An eight year old boy was sitting terrified in his dentist's Office taking in at all the strange sights, sounds and smells, wishing he were anywhere but there. Fast forward a few years, this little boy is now a teenager not really afraid of anything, except dental visits. Unfortunately he finds himself exactly in that dreaded spot, the dental chair, trembling ,sweating and feeling he could toss his cookies at any moment, again wishing he were anywhere but there, even seriously contemplating a run for the door!
To his utter horror, besides those awful dental smells and sounds, sitting right in front of him is a tray of dental instruments, looking amazingly like a bunch of miniature medieval torture instruments. In his mind that is exactly what he feels like, he's trapped in a torture chamber. He's desperately thinking there's got to be a better way to do this!
That little boy and teenager is Randy Garner, now Dr. Garner. These scary and painful experiences are what motivated and drove me to become a dentist and eventually create the Dental Bliss concept, a new way of doing dentistry.
My very “vivid” memories of these early experiences enabled me to create an environment and way of doing dentistry which removed all the scary and unpleasant sensory experiences associated with dentistry in the past.
